Legislative Assistant – Summit Strategies Government Affairs, LLC

Summit Strategies is a government affairs practice founded in Portland, Oregon in 2015 with offices in Portland and Washington, D.C. The firm works extensively on local, state, regional, and federal matters including transportation, energy, the environment, natural resources, health care, human services, education, tax policy, trade, real estate, labor, water infrastructure, and Native American affairs. Summit Strategies represents a wide range of public entities, nonprofits, businesses, coalitions, and associations.

 

Summit Strategies is seeking a Legislative Assistant to join our team in Portland, Oregon with frequent travel to Salem, Oregon when the Oregon State Legislature is in session. This opening is a one-year, full-time position that has the potential to be extended. Successful candidate will be self-motivated and able to tackle a variety of different tasks including:

 

  • Perform legislative and policy research, legislative tracking and analysis, and daily bill tracking during State Legislative session.
  • Attend and monitor legislative hearings and taskforce meetings and draft summaries for internal and external use.
  • Prepare written materials including drafting memos, client leave-behinds, and presentations.
  • Schedule and organize appointments and meetings for Summit professionals and clients including meetings with legislators, legislative staff, government officials, and other organizations.
  • Monitor and prepare reports on current events, news, and regulations on behalf of Summit professionals and clients.
  • Assist with proposal development and response and other marketing efforts.

 

Qualifications

Candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must be detail oriented, organized, and able to multi-task. Interest or previous experience in Salem and the State Legislature preferred. Interest or experience in policy, politics, government, marketing, and/or communications is desirable. Graphic design skills are a plus. The ability to maintain the confidentiality of office work, client matters, and policies and procedures is mandatory. Compensation

$50,000 – $70,000 depending on experience plus an excellent benefits package.
